Wouldn't you know it? After recommending a Stamp-A-Ma-Jig for first impressions, I left my favourite crutch tool at home during yesterday's Stamp-A-Stack! I woke up on the day of the event a little jiggy and that's when I realised that I had forgotten to pack it. All that nervous energy helped to launch me out of bed - just missed kneecapping a sleeping Hubby on the way out, though.
When I put my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig on the piled up box of workshop materials, I thought I had dodged a bullet and I was feeling real jiggy. But in the mad rush to get everything into the car, it must have slid off the pile. I only discovered this grave omission whilst preparing everyone's place at the craft table - through a slow motion crescendo of panic. It's not in the boxes, not hidden in the files, definitely not in the boxes, not in the car boot, not in the car, not in the pockets (no pockets!), it is really, really not in the boxes! Nooooooooooo!
My friend was very understanding. She offered me two rulers which I attempted to sticky tape together along with two Stampin' Spots to form a decent corner - very sad. *sigh* Anyway, I did the demonstration without the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig and I discovered I can stamp freehand! Woohoo! Sure, it wasn't perfect but that's life (sometimes)! That said, I will never willingly go to a workshop without my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig being packed at the bottom of a pile of stuff.

I sure hope that you are laughing at my expense - I have been so poor lately that I can't afford to treat anyone to anything else *grin* And fantastic job on your latest gorgeous article in Cardmaking, Stamping and Papercraft! Was stalking the mailman and it just arrived with you-know-what.
Hey Lin Mei, glad you survived the night! Jayne put up a pic somewhere of one made from lego blocks so you could keep that in mind if your 'bottom of the pile' plan fails!! I had probs Wed night with my Cropadile! I kept setting it up wrong - and here I am saying to the guests 'it makes setting eyelets so easy'!! Oh well - it made it easy once I got it right, and it just shows the customers that we demos are still human - despite our rubber addiction!! :) K
Hey Kari! It is funny but I did remember and when I ask my friend for LEGO, she only had single blocks. Huh? What does one do with single blocks? I guess it is because her eldest is not yet two that they have got big chunky blocks that only go skyward.
Yes ... the Crop-A-Diles are easy to set eyelets but tricky to set themselves! I'm sure the guests were all happy to have you there showing them wonderful creations that they'd be thrilled to make. And that's what counts!
Lin Mei, that made me laugh. My regular group of customers always know that I will have forgotten something - it's become a habit and joke! I only got my SAMJ at the start of this year because I always stamped 'freehand', and now I always forget to reach for it! Congrats on the new skill.
Marcia, I can only hope to emulate your skill in freehand stamping as your cards are always wonderfully crafted. I say hope because other than the amount of practice I would have to undertake to reach your level, I am still reluctant to do the practice since I hate risking the little bits of paper that I trim before I stamp. I think I mentioned somewhere that I'm cheap AND poor, right? ;)
Thanks Lin Mei, I appreciate the comments on my work. Stamping freehand is more about contortion - how to hold your tongue a certain way to make the stamp go where you want it to!
Thanks for the tip, Marcia. Do you have to point the tip of the tongue in the same direction as the stamp or is there more to it?
